Amsterdam Meet-up postmortem
May 5, 2005 ten to eleven am
About 15 people showed up and braved the cold weather before we found an indoor place to continue the adventure game talk. Judging from the extrapolated sample of people that came, I can safely say that 100% of gamers want more adventure games. These are the kind of hard statistics that a publisher can bank on.
Thanks everyone for showing up. It avoided me the embarrassment of creating a fictitious account of the meet-up when no one showed.

It was really great meeting you, Ron, and all these other people. Thanks for signing my map of Amsterdam :D. I hope the meeting in London is will turn out to be just as great as this one.
Thanks Ron for sharing your time with us, and I hope to see you on my website (http://www.ninqualda.net) someday soon!
Greetings, Wisse

You're a great example for us storytellers! :)
The comic I wanted to show to you (About the first person shooter hero) can be found in Dutch on www.Adventure-Island.nl. Paco is putting the english version (in a rar) on his server, so that you can download the english version :)
Again, thanks for the day, and I hope to see you again!

Why did I choose to stay in Egypt instead of going to Europe few weeks earlier? Well, maybe I will have my chance in Paris... :)

Thanks for the great meeting, it was most excellent and inspiring.
Glad to hear you like what I am doing with the Monkey 1 comic.
When it's completely done, I'll be glad to give you a copy.
Hope you'll like those DVDs we gave you.
Good luck with your current (and future) project(s) and enjoy the rest of your stay in Amsterdam!

Anyway, thanks alot for the meeting and of course the fact that you and your girlfriend (Forgot her name :-( ) for paying for our drinks, that was really nice of you.
Enjoy your stay in Amsterdam and London, hope to see your RPG someday!

That said, I take pity on our German friend who now surely endures the 4,5 hour trip back to Bonn. It shows a level of character and nerdism to do that. Yarr I say!
But Ron, it was great talking to you. Surprisingly, the conversation went in many direction besides games and more games. We also chatted about Dutch politics, American topography and, okay, games. Things got weird when some naked old guy in a string decided it was necessary to climb a rope and pull off acrobatic antics in the air. It was weird seeing him in clothes after that. It just didn't feel right.

Good thing the conversation wasn't about Dutch topology and American politics, which would have been much more boring ;)
And yeah, when that naked guy was suddenly dressed it was like going 3D! ;)

To Ron and his girlfriend: The sequel (in a way) to Samurai Fiction is Stereo Future (SF in both cases). But be warned, it's quite strange.

I'm really happy that all of you had fun, maybe I'll meet Ron Gilbert some-day... maybe some-day (sigh).

It's always nice to observe the fact that adventure gaming is still alive, at least in our minds. Surely we all would like storytelling games to be brought back into our economy so badly that I think it's about time we actually did something about it.
Ron, my appreciations go out to you and your girlfriend for giving hope to us all by spending time, money, patience and great stories in your spare time.
I'll have a demo of my newly fashioned point & click - style engine finished real soon. I'll post it to you once it's done and then I hope we can work something out in terms of a small demo game with a mini-script.
Great meeting y'all and maybe till we meet again.
Cheers,
Ralph

I really enjoyed being with all you fellow geeks and our guru Ron. Though It was a bit noisy and cold and I couldn't see half of it, we still managed to get some interesting conversations going. It was amazing to see what people would do to get Ron's attention...(yes it even included climbing a pole and waving around in nothing but a string).
I hope te see you people on future occasions again. And to Ron and his girlfriend(sorry I didn't get your name either...) NEXT TIME THE PHOOD AND THE WINE'S ON US!!! we owe you ;)
I'll post my pictures this week-end
Cheers,
Tarim/Youval

Please tell me that there's going to be a repeat? Asides the random folk from VALVe, you're really the only game developer that I'd like to meet and be generally geeky to..
Now I shall never be able to squeeze the true secret of Monkey Island out of you!

I thought it would be fun to create a simple drawing of the group photo in pirate style. I just hope everyone is still recognizable (including the ones that weren't in the original).

I've got 13 pictures and I'm currently working on a little galery page, but in the meantime, I stumbled upon a picture which was so full of narrative potency that I had to fill in my version of the story.
If you can think of something witty to fit into the balloons, please mail me, so I can add them to the picture and hang it in my gallery:

Wish I had a suggestion for the balloons, but I'm not good at this. Though I think the stuff you came up with is really funny.
