Comments turned off

Mar 25, 2006 quarter past one pm

Comments have be turned off due to an amazing amount of commercial comment spam hitting while I was at GDC, plus a small group of people decided to turn Grumpy Gamer into their own private chat room and spew profanity.  Guys...get your own server...or at least split the hosting cost with me.

I'll turn comments back on when I post a new entry.  Temperature in hell is currently 258 degrees, but dropping.

Why would you ever allow comments in a blog? If I'm going to read it at all, I'm going to read it for YOUR content, not the opinions of some other loser who just happened to wander in. Which applies to this one too, now that I think about it.

Leave the comments off. Fight the proliferation of net.opinions.

If I had a blog, I would allow comments in order to get feedback from my visitors. Comments are meant for the author, not the readers. Note that without comments, people can't come with suggestions like you just did...

At the same time, I have just contradicted my own statement by replying to your comment. Hmmm...

My message is simply: Keep the comments on! I feel really annoyed when I can't comment stuff in blogs.

Ron,
How come, that you dont like Halo and Doom(what I understand,so far)
but play Battlefield and Call of Duty?
??????????
?????
.......
????????????????

Yes. Please be completely consistent with the type of game you like.

Just because they're the same genre doesn't mean they're the same style. For one, Halo and Doom are scif fi - could be a matter of setting, a dislike of sci fi shooters or at least a greater like for WWII ones. Could be realism - Battlefield and CoD are more realistic. There are many, many reasons why someone would like one game in a genre and dislike the next. Hence, your massive use of ? marks really made no sense :)

Good call, Hock. To echo your comments, just because two games (e.g. Halo & CoD) feature the shooting of guns, doesn't mean that they will appeal to a gamer who only likes a particular subset of games that feature the shooting of guns, like, say WWII military shooters. Hey, like the CoD & Battlefield franchises!

But the WWII Shooters are even more "evil"

And where lies the surity that commercial comment spam will not hit it again. By the way what is GDC?

GDC is the Game Developers Conference.
