Studs Terkel Passes Away

Nov 1, 2008 five past nine am

I have to admit that I only tangentially knew who Studs Terkel was, but many years ago, the first time I ever heard of him, I remember thinking: "Damn, I wish my parents had named me Studs Terkel".

What a great name.

He looks a bit crowish in that photo. Anyway, "Ron Gilbert" has a much better ring to it.

What an odd eulogy for someone who just passed away....

I think thats why you would latter on go around naming people as GuyBrush Threepwood, and those type of things...

Dear Ron. The video of THE BEST RACE PILOT EVER is totally fake. I think it was kind of late at night and you were a little drunk when you saw that video and decidade to put a link to it here on the grumpy.

To be honest his real name was Louis and in that instance I think you got the better hand, although his last name is a completely different matter...

I always thought Ron Gilbert sounded like an old historian. It's got this very "proper" sound to it. Quite frankly, whenever I would read "based on the characters created by Ron Gilbert" in the two latter Monkey Island games, I would think Ron Gilbert was some age-old mastermind who had passed away and couldn't work on the sequels.

But I guess that wasn't quite right.

But I guess that wasn't quite right.

Well, it is in a sense, isn't it?

I never wanted to be named Studs Terkel before today, but now I do. Wow.

Self-chosen epitaph of Studs Terkel:

"Curiosity did not kill this cat."
(Wikipedia)

Hehe, that's sound like Scabb Island's Cementery :)

Did Ron's contact message use to be more friendly?

Hi Ron, I'm a big fan of Spanish Monkey Island, to echo the second part is my favorite video game.

Will echo that will have many times this question, but ...

Has it been raised to its third of Monkey Island?, Which would be the third really.

I am sure everyone would be eager to discover the real secret of Monkey Island.

The adventures are not the same without you ... or games.

A salute!

Game industry its a crap now, all its fast boring food.

Hi from Spain! I agree with Raúl in the terms that the second Monkey is brutal, although all we know that your work life do not reduces to it.

It´s a dream in all our heads the existence of another Monkey, but it´s difficult viewing the actual lines where the games walk. Although... it´s an universal truth that adventures aren´t the same without you.

Bye!

that name is good, but not as manly as Max Fightmaster

Well Ron means Rum in Spanish, that's a lot more fitting for a pirate.
And Gilbert always sounded to me like Hook or Peg Leg in some undefined language, so I guess the name is just fine.
