Merry Christmas For You

Dec 25, 2008 quarter to three pm

Because I forgot to get you any else, here are two never before seen pieces of DeathSpank concept art done by Clayton.  Sometime soon I'll start showing actual game art done by the crack team of Hothead artists and animators.

I have to honestly say, I have never felt so good about a game and it's design than I do about DeathSpank.   This thing is going to be huge.  Although, after you buy 50 copies (as promised), you may not want to play it because it will wreck all games you play after that.

Up first is the demon witch Ms. Haybenstance.  There is so much to like about Ms. Haybenstance, then you kill her.

Next up is Bong the Potioner.   Him you don't kill 'cause he's got all the good stuff you need.

Truly lovely, but crisis and all I've decided to onle buy 23 copies. Hope that's acceptable. And merry everything!

Pure awesomeness.

What happened to "Things I Know: Part II?"

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Dec 25, 2008 five pm

I only know one thing.

Posted by Seba on Dec 26, 2008 quarter to two am

HEy! and with Descartes we are three

Posted by Juan Bonair on Dec 26, 2008 four pm

And with Socrates and all the ones who said that after him we're kinda millions.

Posted by Nacho on Dec 25, 2008 quarter past six pm

I hope the smoke in the game actually looks like that, all geometric and pop-artish.
We all trust you with our entire faith in game industry, Ron! Don't fail us!

Ok, maybe I trust in Tim too. Tim has Jack Black you know.

Posted by Cesar on Dec 26, 2008 noon

I used to trust Tim too, but Brutal Legend broke my heart with the console only release.

Now Ron is my only hope.

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Dec 28, 2008 ten to noon

Fear not, there will be PC and console versions of DeathSpank.  We're going to great lengths to build two completely different interface, one for PC players and one for console players.  None of this crappy porting crap.  With DeathSpank, it's top shelf all the way.

Any chance of a Mac version, Ron?

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Dec 28, 2008 five past nine pm

You can count on it.

Posted by Red Dye #2 on Dec 28, 2008 twenty past nine pm

Great! Thanks.

Posted by X-reX on Dec 29, 2008 three am

I love this blog.
Mostly because whatever the post is about, there will always be funny, unrelated to the topic comments.

Posted by X-reX on Dec 29, 2008 twenty five past seven am

Argh I feel so stupid right now.
The reason this reply was in response to this comment is because I read Ron's comment wrong.
"You can't count on it."

Posted by Ezequiel on Dec 30, 2008 half past two pm

Any chance that we will see a wii version of this game?

Posted by Chris on Dec 31, 2008 five past ten pm

THANK YOU!!!

Posted by Cesar on Jan 4, 2009 twenty five past seven pm

Thank you, Ron... Thank you!!!

Hey Ron, will DS be released worldwide at the same time?
When this beauty will reach Spain?

Posted by stormbringer on Feb 19, 2009 ten past six pm

PC, console and Mac is a big great desicion,
but...

how can i say...

...if is there chance... i know is not so ease, there could be big diferences and maybe there isn't a big market...

but it would be great, realy great if you can consider or sugest the linux plataform or make tests with wine/cedega.

i'm not a console user, i don't have a mac and i dont like windows. I will buy my 50 copyes plus the 27 that gnome won't buy.

jokes apart, i can understand that the free software people is a bad market, but dont forget about us.

ps sorry about my english

Bong would remind me of the dude if the dude looked like an elf!

Posted by Fealiks on Jan 4, 2009 twenty to nine am

Jeff Bridges should definitely voice Bong :D

Posted by Mike on Dec 25, 2008 ten past eight pm

I am interested to meet Bong's parents.  I have a question for them.

Posted by MIfan on Dec 26, 2008 twenty to five am

Can you tell us the approximate month of release?

Posted by Mario on Dec 26, 2008 ten past six am

I'd have some 'stuff' of Bong's green flask.

Posted by LennieMelvin on Dec 26, 2008 quarter past eight am

Merry Christmas Ron! Hope you have a great New Year too!
Any dates for the release yet??

Posted by Andreas on Dec 26, 2008 five past nine am

And a merry Christmas to you, Ron!

This year, I ripped "On Stranger Tides" out of Santa's cold hands. So far, it's a great read, and you really can tell which characters inspired Guybrush and Le Chuck. Thanks for the recommendation, years ago! (-:

Posted by amohydous on Dec 26, 2008 twenty five past ten am

go buy World of Goo!

Posted by Diduz on Dec 27, 2008 twenty five to eleven am

Merry Christmas (& a happy new year to you), Ron!
Great concept art.
I hope we'll be seeing more of the game in the coming weeks. Why don't you update the official site?
Bye,
Dom

Posted by krustyDC on Dec 27, 2008 quarter past three pm

nah man...I want to kill Ms. Haybenstance right away...

Posted by Pananag on Dec 28, 2008 three am

Is it Haybenstance or Heybenstance?

Posted by Clayton K on Dec 28, 2008 twenty to noon

The records are unclear, but if you trust the art, it's actually Heybenstance.

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Dec 28, 2008 noon

Its an ongoing debate.  There are the radial "Hey" factions and the militant "Hay" groups.

Posted by Clayton K on Dec 28, 2008 quarter past noon

"Hay" is for horses. Long live the "Hey" Faction!

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Dec 28, 2008 ten to one pm

Ms. Haybenstance comes from a long line of Demonic farmers.

Posted by Elaine Marley on Dec 28, 2008 three pm

You always with those kind of names :P

Posted by Karl on Dec 28, 2008 seven am

Mrs. Herbenstance is hot. Her teeth scare me though.

Posted by sharprm on Dec 28, 2008 five to six pm

Bong's thumb is on the wrong side for his right hand. But I guess its only concept art.

Posted by Clayton K on Dec 28, 2008 twenty to eight pm

I was wondering when somebody would notice that. Let's just say elves have extra bendy wrists.

Posted by sharprm on Dec 28, 2008 half past ten pm

Hands are chiral though.

Posted by Clayton K on Dec 29, 2008 quarter past eleven am

So true.

The funny thing is I held up one of my own hands like I usually do for reference. I suspect the problem was huge tumbler of gin in my other hand. Updated version over on my blog, for those who like their fingers in the right place.

Posted by sharprm on Dec 29, 2008 twenty past eight pm

The original beats the flipped one. You could just screw with the fingers instead:

Posted by Clayton K on Dec 29, 2008 twenty past ten pm

True, but I wanted it to look more like he was offering someone off camera a hit on his namesake.

Posted by sharprm on Dec 30, 2008 twenty five to one am

ohhhh.... I guess that explains the lady putting salt on a spider. :)

Posted by sharprm on Dec 30, 2008 five past three am

Speaking of bong jokes...

http://i39.photobucket.com/albums/e199/sharprm/dde.gif

Good thing I was sober for panel 4.

Posted by sharprm on Jan 2, 2009 five am

Oops. The hand is wrong for panel 4 it has changed to a normal hand.

Re: "Sometime soon I'll start showing actual game art done by the crack team of Hothead artists and animators. "

Can we see art by the team that isn't on drugs? :)

Posted by gnome on Dec 31, 2008 ten past six am

(sneaks in and leaves a lovely bottle of Dom Perignon)

Happy 2009!

Posted by Ogni on Jan 2, 2009 quarter to one pm

I already love "Bong the Potioner"! Can't wait for this game, but please take all the time you need to polish and get everything just right.

Posted by AndyBundy on Jan 3, 2009 twenty five to nine am

yeah and I can't wait for the first ingame scenes with the voice of Bong. umm... hey is there a Bong of Justice? Cos if you have a Thong of Justice and the Bong of Justice, you have everything you need to fight the evil and other non-familiar people and their family members.

Posted by Latigo on Jan 4, 2009 twenty to one am

I'm sorry but nothing will ever be as huge as Monkey Island.

Posted by Jack Shandy on Jan 4, 2009 twenty five past three am

Is it necessary to mention drugs in the game?
Ron,i thougt you weren't a friend of them

Posted by Headwoünd on Jan 5, 2009 ten to nine am

ITS 2009 WERES MY DEATHSPANK RABBLE RABBLE

=X

No seriously, this blogpost made my day. Strange that I only read it today although I'm in your feedz, stalking ur blog.

Anyway, on a more important matter:
RABBLE

Posted by Jeff Plum on Jan 6, 2009 quarter to three am

Ron, Ron, please can we have a Genesis version? Or an Atari version???

Why can't people just be contented with a PC version? If they don't have a PC they won't be able to play it. Maybe Bill Gates could buy exclusive release rights for it under the Games For Win(Fail)dows banner. Then it would sell. Oh, how it would sell.

Posted by Ruben alias Uwe on Jan 7, 2009 five to two am

Speaking of mac versions, console interfaces and in-game material:
Will there be a linux version? I hope so. If not I'm gonna cry...
(and then install it using wine)

Posted by Neo on Jan 8, 2009 quarter past five am

. . . You were the Chosen One! It was said that you would, convince the emotionless, unspirited Doom-Players, not join them. It was you who would bring balance to the Gameindustry, not leave it in Darkness.

Posted by Unreleased on Jan 30, 2009 half past noon

I like ms heybanstance and her magical spider salting abilities

Posted by FLLottoNumbers on Mar 25, 2009 twenty five past noon
