Purcell Pirate Paintings
Feb 4, 2008 twenty to three pm
Steve Purcell has posted some Pirate Paintings he's done that we can only assume are from the ill fated Monkey Island movie. He tells me he'll be posting more later and I have no reason to believe he is lying.
Head on over there and behold the genius that is Steve Purcell.

Your "Worth Visiting..." section has changed a little and there were a bunch of links up there that I never bookmarked but love to visit. Is there any chance you could pop them back up for a while so I can grab them.
Cheers.

They don't get the Monkey Island feeling at all, just look at the box drawings of MI and MI2 to catch what I mean.
These drawings are more in the style (way less mature) of Monkey Island 3. Which, as we all know, doesn't exist.

Mentioning MI1: You know, that Mister T. looks very young there. In those paintings it's the same. Where do you see the comic then? It's just that you know:"AHHAHHHHhh MI is comic-like now, so the paintings are, too". Ever checked other concept artworks? Some of them look comic-like but afterwards the game is more realistic than comic.

These artworks, per se, are really stunning, I love them.
But they don't fit at all my vision of the MI style. Not only the box covers, but all the graphics in MI and MI2 were way more realistic and less cartoonish than that, and I love and always loved that style.

And also knew that LucasArts don't own the rights to the actual secret...only the game itself.
I love this artwork, it's absolutely fantastic.

I found it here
The really interesting thing is that the movie was going to be produced by Steven Spielberg (who is a big Monkey Island fan himself). He asked Ted Elliott, a script writer who has worked on several Disney movies (including 'Treasure Planet') and on 'Steven Spielberg?s Director's Chair' game, to help with the story for the MI movie. The Monkey Island movie never got the green light and years later Ted Elliott wrote 'Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl', which took several ideas from Monkey Island. So basically the first two PotC movies are the Monkey Island movie.

I have no way of knowing for sure, but I'd lay money down that they never heard of the game. You have to remember that Monkey Island was hugely influenced by the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, of which the move was directly based.
How does that fit to the upper Statement?
Ron,you can't be serious.....

Here's a thought, if MI had been made more recently maybe Guybrush would have been called Guygif or maybe Guy J. Peg. Doesn't quite have the same ring, somehow.
