Pirates! Close-up!

Apr 6, 2008 five past five pm

While rummaging around some dusty old game store the other weekend I came across a "Pirate Toob" for $8.99 that was filled with small plastic pirates recommended for ages 3 and up.

Why did God make pirates so much fun?

Ron, download and play Valve's "Portal" for 20 bucks, you wont regret. Its a puzzle game with a nice story and worth playing it fpr the 4 or less hours it takes to resolve it. Give it a try.

Posted by Joe on Apr 7, 2008 quarter past three am

Wha? Viral marketing!?
Harrr

Posted by Dhex on Apr 7, 2008 quarter to eight am

Nah, im a big fan of what this guys at Valve are doing as well as Ron's work, they both have many common ideas about episodic content and puzzle solving, along with a nice plot. After all Ron is a grumpy gamer, Id like to hear his oppinion about this Portal game that they made.
Hey I would even buy the game for him.

Posted by oznerol on Apr 6, 2008 quarter to midnight

you're obsessed by pirates! but as a foolish nerd i must admit i respect your obsession :P

Posted by Games on Apr 7, 2008 ten past one am

I have played that game but I do find it very interesting!

Posted by Ives Castagnino on Apr 7, 2008 five am

Behold! The Games have spoken!

Posted by Ylmer on Apr 7, 2008 five to four am

Hm you know what would be really fun? A pirate adventure game. You know like the old Sierra games, but with better humour and you didn't die all the bloody time.
Now there's a pirate style game I could die for

Posted by Abelo on Apr 8, 2008 five past two am

Cool, it could be somewhat inspired in Pirates of the Caribbean. Imagine some locked pirate trying to get the jail key from the dog. Also, ghost pirates rock too, and Geoffrey Rush rocks so hard that all evil guys should be ghost pirates.

Posted by Julian on Apr 7, 2008 four am

You know, one day, I'll grab Ron and some of my best friends and we all become some freelance pirates sailing around the world going "ARRRRR!".

Posted by Alex on Apr 7, 2008 ten to five am

Can I join to you? I can be "little Joe" one or, "Mad-Eye Jhoni" :D

Posted by Joe on Apr 7, 2008 twenty past seven am

Farewell and adieu to you, Spanish Ladies,
Farewell and adieu to you, ladies of Spain,
For we've received orders for to sail for ole England,
But we hope in a short time to see you again.
We will rant and we'll roar like true British sailors,
We'll rant and we'll roar all on the salt sea.
Until we strike soundings in the channel of old England;
From Ushant to Scilly is thirty five leagues...

Posted by Joe on Apr 18, 2008 half past five am

That movie is more awesome than any other movie in existence.

Posted by Cutthroat Will(ow) on Apr 30, 2008 five past three am

Aye...
Well in terms of comedy and general pirate patriotism it was a great movie.
But Pirates of the Caribbean be a really great film too, one o' the best pirate movies I've ever seen.
But pure comedy and adventure/fantasy cannot be compared.

'Sides which, I remember a certain computer game back in the day which was really something special...

Posted by savagex on Apr 7, 2008 twenty five to eight am

Did it have the roller top on the toob?

we saw a large variety of these guys in Rehoboth beach last time we were there.

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Apr 10, 2008 twenty five to ten am

Yes it did.  The roller was a globe.

Posted by maYO on Apr 7, 2008 twenty to two pm

Isnt' that Mr. Toothrot? Must be; or at least a close relative.

Posted by Pandan on Apr 8, 2008 ten to eight am

If pirates weren't so much fun,we wouldn't love MI the same way we do.

Posted by murderous_tree on Apr 9, 2008 twenty five to five am

Hey, I don't know where i should be posting this and i'm sure lots of you already know this but in case you didn't...

Lucasarts has a new president!
http://www.lucasarts.com/company/release/news20080402.html

Reckon this will affect the possibilities of Lucasarts ever going back to at least semi-adventure games being produced?

I'm still hopefully living for the day when i can hear the words "Adventure Game" and "Lucasarts" being mentioned in the same sentence without the word "not" or "never"  or "in the past" being thrown in somewhere...

But even if not...new president= new possibilities...
(Hey, I choose to hope.)

Posted by AndyBundy on Apr 11, 2008 half past nine am

yeah new possibilites for new franchises. But new possibilities for old franchises... not really.

Posted by Joe on Apr 12, 2008 half past three am

Depends if this new guy cares or not.

Posted by AndyBundy on Apr 12, 2008 quarter to nine am

he didn't mention any titles conerning the glory time of LucasArts. Just those games that were released some time ago. I think these titles are going to be short living memories in my mind, the first LucasArts Games I'll keep in mind forever. Hey some games were created before I was born and still I remember this title with full name. But... damn what's the name of the Jedi-Killing game? no clue

Posted by Killuah on Apr 11, 2008 ten past seven am

He didn't .
It's just the romantic image of them that we have in our minds.

Posted by Joe on Apr 11, 2008 ten to nine am

I'm gonna say that God didn't make pirates fun, Pirates made Pirates fun.

Why are pirates, pirates?

Posted by Cancerboy on Apr 12, 2008 ten to eleven am

I really like the photos you have done of the pirates. Are you shooting these with a 50mm?

Posted by Ron Gilbert on Apr 12, 2008 twenty past eleven am

They were done with a Canon 5D and a 180mm lens with various close-up filters, which accounts for the low dof and the lens distortion.

Posted by Alex on Apr 13, 2008 five am

Hmm nice camera Ron, how much? :S

Posted by Cancerboy on Apr 13, 2008 twenty past four pm

180mm... nice. That is the EF Macro I assume? Sure makes a simple tube of pirates come to life!

Posted by Jakob Progsch on Apr 22, 2008 twenty five past noon

And I already thought there was some kind of vodoo involved to get a color picture from a TX 400 :D.

Posted by oznerol on Apr 14, 2008 five past five am

Hi, guys, i have a file with the extension "brush" ;), i'm from spain and i dream for one day play again a monkey island sequel, perhaps in episodes? for ds and pc, i don't. But i prefer live in dreams, the real worlds without monkey island sucks. All people who played monkey island are a little part of guybrush.

Posted by bluesxman on Apr 15, 2008 five past four pm

Why they charged you $0.99 above RRP!  You was scammed Ron!  Scammed I tells ya!

Posted by splat on Apr 16, 2008 five am

Posted by hannes on Apr 20, 2008 five past ten am

Posted by RAFA (A. Gorila) on Apr 23, 2008 half past seven pm

Ummm, it can be a good idea sell figurines of guybrush, elaine and lechuck.
