I saw it on opening night as well (thanks me for booking it in advance woo) and thought it was a major disappointment. It's not the silliness of the theme that spoils it, it's the fact that it's ALIENS and they've never done aliens before and yet nobody in the film seems to bat an eyelid that it's aliens. Plus the aliens look stupid when they come to life - dreadfully unimaginatively realised.

Plus there's far too many hangers-on in the 'team' that only serve one very simplistic purpose each, Marion has bugger all to do, the chemistry between Ford and Shia is great but overcrowded by everyone else, the lead baddie is about as threatening as a pretty blonde (oh, she is!) and has a really unsatisfying end, the script is a bit weak, there's barely any real adventuring and clue solving hijinks - it just barrels from scene to scene, location to location without enjoying how they got there, there's some great moments of eery quiet with just Ford and Shia but there needs to be way more, I got very bored of the "we're old!" gags after the 5th or 6th, and they just kept coming, and the CG (while expected) was vastly overused and removed the sense of real physical danger that all the other Indy films had. They used to use physical effects, even if they were miniatures, but now it's a case of "make it look really cool in a computer" but it's painfully obvious when it's a computer and it takes you right out of the moment. The car/jungle chase and the ants are a case in point.

But overall yeah, it's okay.
